TOUCHING VISION

This collection of essays adresses not only conservator/restorers, but also a wide range of others concerned with art, including artists, museum and exhibition staff, scientists, collectors and, last but not least, the individual lover of art.
The first 8 writings contain a chronological view of conservation/restoration's expanding and difficult concerns within modern and postmodern art up to now. The effects art can have are made transparent by studies on phenomena apparent in modern art's conservation/restoration, including the insight art may give a person, who is able to touch it not only mentally but also physically.
All problems contemporary art present are linked to the development of culture and civilization in the last century, to which conservation/restoration has had to adapt itself. Consequently the history, theory and ethics of conservation/restoration are the other main concerns of the text.
As conservation/restoration cannot avoid being an interpretation of art, art's perception and effects is the third topic debated within the essays. The enlightening influence art may have and how it can emich a person's life to reflect creativity in creative reflection informs the book's final chapters.
