RHS Grow Your Own for Kids appeals to parents because it embodies the 'Grow Your Own' ethos of food provenance, self-sufficiency, and healthy eating. It shows how to sow and grow up to 12 key vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peas, sunflowers, potatoes, monster pumpkins, mustard & cress, runner beans, courgettes. It also includes child-friendly fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and grapes, together with other plants such as sunflowers, edible flowers and snapdragons. Step by step photography uses children's hands learning to grow and producing the results for themselves, such as sunflower seeds for feeding the birds, growing hedge veg (selling surplus crops from the front garden), and making gardening and living gifts for their friends and family. Throughout the book Chris Collins will explain how and why certain things happen in the garden, introducing young gardeners to a little of the science behind gardening.
